The Salt of the Earth

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
–Matthew 5:13-16

As a Christian Hip-Hop artist these verses hit home pretty hard. Sometimes it’s easy to leave Jesus out of our lyrics, and just push “positive” lyrics. Think about it. What makes us “lights”? Jesus! Apart from salvation, we are the “world”. So, the only thing that sets us apart from the rest of the world is, He revealed the promise that God has offered us through his son Jesus. If we compromise, then have we not just become lights under a basket, or flavorless salt. Think about it. Therefore, with humility, we are to live according to the spirit, and not the flesh, that our father in heaven will be Glorified! Basically, we know who we were, and our friends know who we were too. And, after seeing a complete transformation by the Holy Spirit, they know that it wasn’t accomplished in our own strength, and our lifestyles can ultimately lead unbelievers to the Savior! God is amazing!
